Different projects require different approaches. One thing does not change: CEI believes in establishing clear expectations from the beginning. Choose the type of project below to see what to expect.
Structural Inspection Process | Structural Design Process | Forensic Engineering Process
Structural Inspection Process
- Tell us what is happening: Submit the property information, concern, relevant photos/documents, and any deadline.
- Schedule the inspection: Our administrative team coordinates an available engineer and confirms the scope.
- Engineer evaluates the structure: The engineer performs the agreed on-site assessment, observations, and measurements.
- Receive your findings: CEI provides the verbal findings and/or written documentation included in the agreed scope.
Structural Design Process
- Share your project with us: Send us your architectural drawings, project scope, site information, anticipated schedule, and other available documents such as a soils report. We’ll review the project and let you know if anything else is needed.
- Align on scope and expectations: Before engineering begins, we confirm the scope, deliverables, fee, schedule, and responsibilities so everyone understands what to expect. For larger or ongoing projects, we may also schedule a kickoff meeting to establish coordination and communication expectations.
- Design and coordinate: Your engineer develops the structural design and coordinates with the project team as needed. We focus on practical solutions that support the architectural intent and help keep the project moving.
- Review and deliver: Our team completes an internal review before issuing the structural drawings, calculations, or other deliverables included in your scope.
- Support construction: We remain available as the project moves into construction. RFIs, revisions, site observations, inspections, and other construction-phase services are provided as included in the project scope or added when needed.
Forensic Engineering Process
- We start by listening: We’ll talk through your concern, who’s involved, what occurred, and what deliverable you need at the end (advice, a report, legal testimony, etc.). We’ll tell you honestly how or if we can help.
- We review the background: Before anyone visits the site, we go through the relevant reports, records, photos, claim materials, and construction documents. We will show up prepared and ready to assist.
- We see it for ourselves: A licensed engineer goes to the site and documents existing conditions firsthand (observations, measurements, and whatever field work the situation calls for). Conclusions rest on evidence, not assumptions.
- We determine the cause and extent: We evaluate the possible explanations against the physical evidence, the records, engineering principles, and the applicable codes and standards. The answer follows the evidence, wherever it leads.
- You get a clear, defensible answer: We keep you updated and deliver findings in the form you need (a verbal summary, a written engineering report, or both). We base our opinions on the facts and deliver them in language a non-technical person can follow.
