Residential Structural Engineer

Cronin Engineering and Inspection is looking for a skilled and motivated structural engineer to join our team. We are a small, fast-growing company with opportunities for advancement. We’re looking for a structural engineer that’s ambitious and wants to take on responsibility to grow an engineering firm together. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the integrity and safety of various structures. The projects range from residential renovations to small commercial projects. The projects are typically on short timelines creating a fast-paced environment and requires moving quickly from project-to-project. The candidate will collaborate with diverse stakeholders from architects to general contractors and will be responsible for completing projects on time and with high quality.

Responsibilities

Design Work (60%)

  • Design and analyze structural systems for buildings and other infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders to develop efficient and innovative solutions.
  • Perform site visits and inspections to assess existing structures and provide recommendations for repairs and improvements
  • Stay up-to-date with industry advancements, best practices, and building codes to continuously improve engineering processes.
  • Review structural calculations and drawings to ensure that projects meet all required specifications.
  • Conduct structural calculations to ensure compliance with relevant codes and safety standards.
  • Design Projects include:
    • New residential designs
    • Home renovation designs
    • Commercial retrofit projects
    • New, small, commercial projects
    • Foundation repair projects

Field Work (40%)

  • Structural home inspections (contracted by the buyer or seller of a home)
  • Foundation inspections
  • New project evaluations
  • Commercial inspections

Residential Structural Engineering Manager

We’re looking for a structural engineer who is ambitious and eager to take on responsibilities to grow an engineering firm together. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and ensuring the integrity and safety of various structures. Projects range from residential renovations to small commercial projects. The work is fast-paced, requiring efficient project management and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including architects and general contractors. This role will also involve reviewing and stamping drawings, as well as mentoring and overseeing engineers in training (EITs).

Responsibilities

Engineering & Design (80%)

  • Design and analyze structural systems for residential and small commercial projects.
  • Conduct structural calculations to ensure compliance with relevant codes and safety standards.
  • Prepare and review detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Review and stamp structural drawings to ensure they meet all required specifications and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders to develop efficient and innovative solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry advancements, best practices, and building codes to continuously improve engineering processes.
  • Oversee structural calculations and designs produced by engineers in training, providing feedback and guidance.

Field Work (20%)

  • Perform site visits and inspections to assess existing structures and provide recommendations for repairs and improvements.
  • Conduct structural home inspections (contracted by buyers or sellers).
  • Evaluate foundations and recommend appropriate repair solutions.
  • Assess new project sites and commercial structures for compliance and integrity.
  • Support and train EITs through the inspection process.

Management & Mentorship

  • Supervise engineers in training (EITs), providing mentorship and oversight on their work.
  • Review EITs’ calculations and designs to ensure accuracy and compliance with structural standards.
  • Assist with training and professional development of junior engineers.
  • Support team collaboration by delegating tasks effectively and ensuring projects are completed on time and with high quality.
