Cronin Engineering and Inspection provided the structural design drawings for a basement dig out in Denver. The existing residence had previously been renovated as a pop-top home renovation and included a second floor that was supported by the existing foundation as well as new steel columns and pad footings. Some of the challenges of the project included underpinning a structure that had large point loads at column locations, designing an excavation/shoring plan to allow for the structure to be safely underpinned, and designing structural steel to support much of the existing main floor framing while the home was underpinned.
